Kayla specialises in complex commercial litigation and dispute resolution, with particular interest and expertise in public law.

Kayla has appeared in the Supreme Court, High Court, and Māori Land Court, and has assisted clients with alternative dispute resolution processes. She frequently advises clients on contractual and tort issues, regulatory issues, and public and administrative law.

Prior to joining Chapman Tripp, Kayla was a judges’ clerk at the Auckland High Court, giving her a valuable insight into a wide range of civil matters.

  • Acted for Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei in a challenge to the Crown’s Treaty settlement policy in Tāmaki Makaurau.
  • Acted in judicial review proceedings relating to the Waitangi Tribunal’s resumption jurisdiction.
  • Acted for a major energy company in relation to a customary title claim affecting its assets.
  • Acted for liquidators in asset protection proceedings against former directors.
  • Assisted a high net worth individual to bring proceedings against a trustee for breach of fiduciary duty.
  • Advised an NZX-listed company in contractual disputes arising from a failed takeover.
