Leo Faingataa
2018-2021, Construction & Major Projects Team, Auckland
Current role: Associate, Construction, Clifford Chance
What is a highlight from your time at Chapman Tripp?
I made some great friends during my time at CT and got to work with my wife, Danielle Fuemana, who worked in the Property team with Matt Carroll. Besides this, I loved getting involved in all of the extra activities like the Taupō Great Lake Relay, the CT-Rexes touch rugby team and Torts Illustrated netball team, CT Auckland’s Catan Club (which has gone international with a number of us in Dubai now) and whatever else was going on.
What has been your biggest career achievement since leaving the firm?
After leaving Chapman Tripp I joined Clifford Chance’s Singapore office. I did well enough there that when I decided I wanted to move to Dubai, Clifford Chance offered me an internal transfer to work in their Dubai and Abu Dhabi offices.
What else have you achieved since leaving the firm?
Leaving the firm to live and work overseas has allowed Dani and I to more conveniently travel to countries that are otherwise pretty far from New Zealand, so I’ve ticked a few more countries off the list which has been awesome. Our highlight so far was the week-long surf camp we did in Sri Lanka.
Tell us about your current role and location?
I am based in Clifford Chance’s Dubai and Abu Dhabi offices, sharing my time between the two. I advise on all forms of construction documents across the life cycle of a project and am also getting involved in advising on the construction documents of project financing deals.
What is the best thing about your current role?
The best thing has to be getting to live in new regions of the world and experiencing new cultures and cuisines, first in Singapore and now in the UAE.
