Chapman Tripp Senior Associate, Philip Ascroft has been appointed as an Associate Director to the board of the NZ Shareholders’ Association (NZSA).
The NZSA is a non-profit membership organisation designed to advocate, represent and inform retail shareholders.
It works with regulators, industry stakeholders and corporates to improve relationships between companies and their shareholders – and challenge behaviour that is not in the interests of retail shareholders.
Philip specialises in corporate and securities law with a particular focus on equity capital markets, mergers and acquisitions and corporate governance.
With experience on many of New Zealand's most significant initial public offerings (IPOs) and other equity capital markets transactions, Philip acts for issuers, arrangers and underwriters on all aspects of IPOs and capital raisings. He also advises on listed company compliance and corporate governance, mergers and acquisitions, takeovers and other corporate law issues. Philip was recognised by NZ Lawyer as a Rising Star in 2022.
Chapman Tripp Chief Executive Partner Pip England said:
The NZSA plays an important role informing, advocating for and representing retail shareholders. We believe Philip will be a great addition to the NZSA board, with his expertise in equity capital markets and experience acting for leading NZX listed corporates, underwriters and shareholders, providing a valuable perspective.
"Philip has invaluable critical thinking and analytical skills, supported by a thoughtful and considerate approach. We are pleased to see Philip take up a governance role with this important industry organisation."
Chapman Tripp is a supporter member of the NZSA and has provided it with legal services for a number of years.
This appointment is effective 14 February 2024.
