Cate practices in litigation and dispute resolution. She has broad experience in both contentious and non-contentious matters, with a focus on public, regulatory and climate and ESG work.
Cate has advised clients on a range of issues including statutory interpretation, tort law, and public law dimensions of public sector contracting. She has particular expertise and interest in issues relating to climate change and ESG, and regularly advises clients on the preparation of climate-related disclosures. She is also interested in the areas of public law, international law, and arbitration. Cate has appeared in the District Court.
After completing her studies at Victoria University of Wellington | Te Herenga Waka, Cate spent two years as a Judges' clerk at the Court of Appeal | Te Kōti Pīra o Aotearoa before joining Chapman Tripp.

- Advised New Zealand listed entities on the preparation of climate-related disclosures
- Assisted on recognition proceedings of an international investment (ICSID) award before the New Zealand courts
- Advised and acted for NZ Transport Agency | Waka Kotahi on a range of matters, including defending an appeal against its regulatory decisions in the District Court
