Daniel specialises in complex commercial litigation and dispute resolution, with a particular focus on construction, energy, and financial disputes.  

Daniel has acted on disputes concerning a range of major projects, including hospitals, highways, renewable (geothermal, hydro, wind, and solar) energy projects, natural gas infrastructure, and residential and hotel developments.  

Daniel has appeared as counsel in arbitrations, the District Court, and the High Court, and acted in adjudications and independent expert processes. He has assisted on settlement processes in both New Zealand and Singapore.  

Recent highlights:

  • Advising principals, contractors, subcontractors and consultants on variation, extension of time, defect, remediation, and termination claims.
  • Acting on disputes and prosecutions concerning the Building Act 2004 and Financial Markets Conduct Act 2013.
  • Acting for New Zealand government entities on disputes concerning major infrastructure projects. 
  • Assisting an offshore state utility company in a dispute related to the construction of a major energy project.
  • Acting for a major energy company in a review of a Civil Aviation Authority determination. 
  • Acting for a charity in the successful variation of a charitable trust deed in the High Court. 
  • Publishing academic work with the Construction Law Journal and Society of Construction Law.
