Fair Pay Agreements Act passes

27 October 2022

The Fair Pay Agreements Act, providing a mechanism to promote collective bargaining on an industry or occupational basis, will come into effect on 1 December.

Industries and occupations which have been identified for coverage are cleaners, supermarkets, bus drivers, hospitality workers and early childhood teachers.

However, it will be a race against time as if National makes government at the next election, it will make repeal of the legislation one of its first priorities.

Chapman Tripp will provide more detailed advice next month on what to do if a union comes knocking.
