Alex is an experienced corporate lawyer specialising in mergers and acquisitions (M&A), private capital, equity capital markets, overseas investment, joint ventures, corporate restructuring projects and corporate governance. 

Alex has diverse sector experience, with particular expertise in infrastructure, healthcare, financial services, retirement living & aged care, real estate and forestry. He is proficient in advising on management incentive arrangements and employee share schemes and has presented his insights to the Law Association of New Zealand.

Before returning to New Zealand in 2020, Alex was at magic circle firm Clifford Chance for six years, in its London, UK and São Paulo, Brazil offices. He also had two years as an independent legal consultant working on African M&A and capital markets projects. 

Alex is recognised as a Rising Star Partner by IFLR1000 2025.

  • Advised Direct Capital on the sale of an interest in AS Colour to Quadrant Private Equity.
  • Advised the shareholders of PF Olsen and Forest360 on the proposed mergers of their businesses and sale to Adamantem Capital.
  • Advised Pioneer Energy on the sale of the Rangiriri Solar Project to Genesis Energy.
  • Advised Direct Capital on its investment in Hiway Group on the exit by The Riverside Company, and its investment into Bayley Corporation in connection with the acquisition of ASX-listed real estate company McGrath.
  • Advised Pepper Money on its acquisition of the NZ$1.4b prime residential mortgage portfolio from HSBC New Zealand.
  • Advised Z Energy on the $2b takeover by Ampol by way of scheme of arrangement.
  • Advised Morgan Stanley Infrastructure Partners on the acquisition of the StraitNZ business including Bluebridge ferries.
