Penny Kitto is a specialist corporate and commercial lawyer with expertise in mergers and acquisitions, corporate governance, and commercial contracting. 

With experience working both in-house and in private practice, she is adept at navigating complex legal issues in a collaborative and solutions-focused manner.

Penny joined Chapman Tripp in early 2025 after working in-house for a leading retirement village and aged care operator. She was recognised as an Excellence Awardee for Young In-House Lawyer of the Year at the New Zealand Law Awards in 2023.

  • Advising a leading retirement village operator on acquiring new villages in the South Island and co-leading their integration into existing business operations.*
  • Leading an in-house initiative to fully automate contractual documentation, resulting in substantial time savings and minimising the risk of errors.*
  • Preparing submissions on proposed regulatory reform within the retirement village sector.*
  • Advising on all aspects of corporate governance for a range of clients, ensuring adherence to mandatory disclosure and reporting obligations and managing relationships with external statutory bodies.*
  • Delivering company secretarial services to a joint venture board and its subcommittees.*
