Tim is a senior partner specialising in cross-border M&A, investment and joint ventures across a variety of sectors, including financial services, energy, infrastructure, aged care and technology. 

He acts for domestic and international corporates and financial sponsors, leading cross discipline teams on major buy-side and sell-side mandates.

Known for finding solutions and getting deals done, Tim is often called upon by international clients to advise on investment matters, including navigating the Overseas Investment Office approval regime.

Tim is consistently ranked as one of New Zealand’s top corporate lawyers, recognised by Chambers Asia Pacific, Chambers Global, IFLR1000 and Legal 500 Asia Pacific. He is a member of Chapman Tripp's board.

  • Advised TA Associates on its 50% acquisition of Craigs Investment Partners, one of New Zealand’s largest investment advisory firms.
  • Advised Partners Life on major corporate transactions including a cornerstone investment by Blackstone, acquisition of BNZ Life and 100% sale to Tokyo-listed insurer Dai-ichi Life for $1b.
  • Advised Accolade Wines on its acquisition of Pernod Ricard Winemakers, and merger to form Vinarchy.
  • Advised NZ Super Fund and Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan on their joint acquisition of Asia Pacific Healthcare Group, New Zealand’s largest pathology business.
  • Advised Shell on the sale of its New Zealand upstream oil and gas operations to Vienna-based OMV.
  • Advised on the $2.2b merger that created NZX/ASX listed Heartland Bank, and subsequent acquisitions and capital raisings by Heartland.
