Chapman Tripp has advised Pioneer Green Power on the successful sale of its ‘ready to build’ Rangiriri solar project to Genesis Energy, marking a significant milestone in New Zealand’s renewable energy sector.
Located near Rangiriri in Waikato, the 271MWp solar farm is set to become one of the country’s largest solar projects. Once operational, it is expected to generate approximately 437 gigawatt hours (GWh) of electricity annually—enough to power around 54,600 homes and make a substantial contribution to New Zealand’s clean energy future.
The Chapman Tripp team was led by partners Alex Franks and Lauren Curtayne, supported by senior associate Hamish Reid and solicitors Gracie Jones and Hannah Houghton. The project also drew on the expertise of Chapman Tripp’s wider energy team, including partners Tessa Baker and Alana Lampitt, senior associate James Watson, senior solicitor Georgia Moore, and solicitor Cale Tu’inukuafe.
Reflecting on the project, energy sector lead Lauren Curtayne said:
It has been incredibly rewarding to work alongside Pioneer Green Power from the early stages of the Rangiriri solar project through to its sale to Genesis Energy. This transaction will see 271MW of much-needed renewable generation added to the national grid. We look forward to continuing our partnership with Pioneer Green Power as they develop further solar projects across Aotearoa New Zealand.
