Tom is a transactional-focused lawyer with experience in public and private mergers and acquisitions and capital raisings.
He acts for domestic and international clients – including private equity sponsors, strategic investors and listed companies – on complex, high-value corporate transactions across a range of sectors. Tom has extensive experience advising on the structuring, negotiation and execution of transactions in fast-paced environments, with a focus on achieving successful outcomes.
He also advises on corporate governance matters and the Overseas Investment Act implications of investment in New Zealand, as well as a range of corporate and securities law matters.
Before rejoining Chapman Tripp in 2021, Tom worked in London with leading US law firm Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton, where he gained experience on cross-border transactions and international capital markets work. He has been recognised as a Rising Star by NZ Lawyer.

- Advising Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan in connection with the partial sale of interests in Connexa, a leading provider of mobile infrastructure in New Zealand, to Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec for $909m.
- Advising TPG, a leading global asset manager, on its acquisition of Tāmaki Health Group.
- Advising Infratil, EBOS Group and ikeGPS on multiple secondary capital raisings on the NZX Main Board, totalling more than $2.5b in aggregate.
- Advising Resolution Life on its acquisition of the New Zealand life insurance company Asteron Life New Zealand for $410m.
- Advising Infratil on its sale of a 51% interest in Manawa Energy as part of a scheme of arrangement with Contact Energy and its acquisition of interests in Canberra Data Centres.
- Advising The Treasury on its participation in Genesis Energy’s $400m capital raise.
- Advising Kiwi Group Holdings on the sale of Kiwi Wealth to Fisher Funds for $310m.
