Having received a preliminary pass in December last year, Chapman Tripp has met the criteria to be certified with the Rainbow Tick, signifying its ongoing dedication to ensuring its people can be their authentic selves in the workplace.
Rainbow Tick certification is a continuous quality improvement programme designed to help organisations ensure a safe and welcoming workplace for employees who are members of the Rainbow community.
People & Culture Director Tania Restall says:
One of the core pillars of our people strategy is to provide a workplace in which all our people can thrive. Chapman Tripp’s key driver for pursing Rainbow Tick accreditation was to strengthen our commitment to ensuring an inclusive workplace. It has also been an extremely valuable exercise to highlight our key strengths and areas for development.
Chapman Tripp has met Rainbow Tick standards in five key areas – Strategy and Policy; Staff Engagement and Organisational Support; External Engagement; Organisational Development; and Monitoring. The report notes that Chapman Tripp’s centring of LGBTTQIA+ perspectives in many areas, including through its robust policies and procedures, demonstrates an authentic commitment and success in advancing Rainbow inclusion.
Prior to engaging with Rainbow Tick the firm had a number of initiatives in place, including its established Rainbow committee, Rainbow speakers events, educating and embracing pronoun use in the workplace, updating its people policies to be gender neutral, and publically acknowledging its support and submitting on the Conversion Practices Prohibition Bill 2021.
Alongside the Rainbow Tick standards Chapman Tripp has fast tracked and committed to a number of changes in its existing processes:
- strengthening recruitment process from advertising to onboarding to ensure inclusive language
- updating its ‘managing unconscious bias’ guides
- updating its employee surveys, which capture and measure Rainbow employee perceptions of safety, dignity and inclusiveness at work, and
- providing Rainbow awareness training for all staff in conjunction with acknowledging and celebrating Pride.
“Receiving Rainbow Tick certification is a reflection of the work we have been doing for a number of years to be a progressive, inclusive and dynamic firm that reflects the communities in which we serve,” said Restall.
