We are delighted that Janko Marcetic and Tom Jemson have been recognised as Rising Stars by NZ Lawyer.
Janko is a highly regarded litigator and a core member of our Restructuring & Insolvency team. His expertise includes advising insolvency practitioners on complex issues arising in the course of receivership, liquidation and administration, as well as acting for directors of companies facing both civil claims and regulatory charges. Janko has acted on some of New Zealand’s recent significant cases in this area. He also has significant experience in multi-million dollar disputes involving contractual and tort claims, as well as breaches of fiduciary duty.
Among his recent work, Janko has acted for four of the former directors of Mainzeal Property and Construction in New Zealand’s largest breach of directors’ duties case. He has also acted for and advised Calibre Partners across a wide range of issues on multiple receiverships (including recovery actions and various urgent injunction proceedings). Janko was part of the team Calibre Partners as the receivers of the Claymark Group, which was an Excellence Awardee in the Insolvency and Restructuring Deal of the Year category at the 2021 NZ Law Awards. He has also supported New Zealand Opera and Auckland City Mission with Pro bono work.

Janko is also recognised as a Rising Star by Legal 500 Asia Pacific 2023 and an Associate to Watch by Chambers Asia Pacific 2023. He was also an Excellence Awardee in the Young Private Practice Lawyer of the Year category at the 2022 NZ Law Awards.
Tom is a Senior Associate in our market-leading Corporate team, with a particular focus on mergers and acquisitions (M&A). He advises clients on a broad range of corporate transactions including private M&A, takeovers and capital raisings. Tom also has experience assisting clients with regulatory and corporate governance matters.
In the last 12 months, Tom has contributed significantly to a range of corporate transactions including advising Kiwi Group Holdings Limited on the sale of its 100% shareholding in Kiwi Wealth Limited to Fisher Funds Management Limited for NZ$310m. Tom also advised FNZ New Zealand on its transformational partnership between Hatch and Jarden Direct, and investors on bids related to mobile phone tower and electricity distribution businesses.
