Chapman Tripp is pleased to have advised Parliamentary Service on the contracts for construction of two new parliamentary buildings.
The project will see the construction of two new buildings at Museum Street and Ballantrae Place behind the Beehive, providing accommodation for MPs and their staff as well as a modern, secure deliveries building to service the Parliamentary Precinct.
The new buildings will incorporate environmentally conscious design, using New Zealand materials and recycled materials where possible to reduce construction waste. High-performance building fabric and energy-efficient systems will be used to ensure carbon reduction during the lifespan of the buildings.
The project is anticipated to provide long-term savings to the Crown, primarily by reducing the need to rent commercial office space.
Chapman Tripp has advised on all aspects of the project, including assisting Parliamentary Service to enter into an Enabling Works Contract in December 2022 for the initial civil and landscaping works, and a Pre-Construction Services Agreement with the main contractor in 2023 to enable early contractor involvement in design and construction planning, reducing the potential for delays and design changes once construction commences.
The Chapman Tripp team was led by Partner, Greg Wise, with support from Senior Associates, Llewellyn Teeling and Rosa McPhee.
