Chapman Tripp is delighted to announce the promotion of Alexandra Bensemann, Doug Tang, Hamish Journeaux, James Watson and Stephanie Atkinson to Senior Associate.

Alexandra Bensemann specialises in competition and regulatory law, advising clients across a range of industries on competition and consumer law, economic regulation, and enforcement and investigation matters. Alexandra has particular experience advising clients in the electricity, airport, supermarket and gas industries on their competition and regulatory obligations. She also previously worked in Chapman Tripp’s Tax team, where she advised on a range of tax matters, including structuring, international tax, and banking and finance transactions.
Doug Tang specialises in financial services law, with a focus on regulation and compliance. Doug advises a broad range of domestic and international clients, including banks, insurers, payment providers, fund managers, financial advisers, licensed entities, supervisors and fintech startups. He also advises on the regulatory aspects of mergers and acquisitions transactions, including post-completion implementation matters.
Hamish Journeaux is a specialist tax lawyer advising New Zealand and international clients on a broad range of complex tax matters. Hamish's experience includes advising on mergers and acquisitions, business structuring and reorganisations, finance transactions, and Inland Revenue engagement. He works with clients across a range of industries on transactional, advisory and contentious tax matters, providing practical and commercially focused advice.
James Watson specialises in all aspects of commercial property, with a particular focus on complex acquisitions and disposals, syndications, leasing, subdivisions and development projects. James advises a broad range of clients across the office, retail, industrial, hotel property sectors, as well as on energy projects including solar and battery energy storage system (BESS) developments. James has significant experience acting on large-scale property transactions, developments and strategic land projects throughout New Zealand.
Stephanie Atkinson specialises in corporate and commercial law, with particular expertise in mergers and acquisitions, corporate governance, commercial contracts, and privacy and data protection. Stephanie advises clients across a range of industries, including the agribusiness sector, on business and share sale and purchase transactions, joint venture and shareholder arrangements, securities law, corporate governance, restructurings and general commercial matters. She also has extensive experience advising clients on compliance with New Zealand’s privacy and data protection laws.
