We are proud to have advised Hamilton City Council and Waikato District Council on the establishment of IAWAI - Flowing Waters, a new dedicated waters organisation that is publicly owned by Hamilton City Council and Waikato District Council, in partnership with Waikato-Tainui.
In a landmark decision, the IAWAI Establishment Board, Hamilton City Council and Waikato District Council last week approved the agreements for the transfer of each Council’s water and wastewater assets to IAWAI. This marks an important step towards a new model for delivering water services in the region, supporting long-term planning and investment in water infrastructure, with the aim of delivering improved services and significant savings for ratepayers over time.
Chapman Tripp’s work included advising the Councils on all aspects of the establishment of IAWAI. The Chapman Tripp team was led by our corporate experts, Partner Josh Blackmore and Senior Associate Penny Kitto (Birch), with support from partners Greg Wise, Mark Reese, Tim Sherman and Tim Smith.
We recognise the establishment team and all those involved from the Councils and IAWAI for the substantial work and constructive collaboration that has helped bring this milestone to fruition.
