Chapman Tripp has advised Mercury on the construction and long-term maintenance of a new windfarm at Turitea near Palmerston North.
The 119MW windfarm will be engineered and constructed, and also maintained long-term, by Vestas, the world’s largest wind turbine manufacturer and supplier.
Chapman Tripp construction and major projects partner, Brian Clayton, led a cross-practice team, involving specialists from our construction, corporate & commercial and environment, planning & resource management teams. Partner Catherine Somerville-Frost, Senior Associates Jenny Kenyon, Lauren Curtayne and Alana Lampitt, and Senior Solicitors Kylie Mutch and Jeryl-Lyn Govender also advised on the project.
“We are proud to have acted on this project, which is not only complex but also marks a great achievement for Mercury in adding wind generation to its existing renewable generation portfolio,” Clayton said.
Chapman Tripp’s legal team worked seamlessly to deliver the project with Mercury’s senior legal counsels Garth Landers and Natasha Strong.
Mercury has committed to the construction of the first 33 of 60 consented wind turbines at Turitea and, when completed, it will be New Zealand’s third largest windfarm. On-site construction is planned to start in August 2019 and the overall cost for the project is estimated to be $256m.
