Kym specialises in commercial law with a focus on government procurement (including collaborative contracts) and ICT projects.
She has extensive expertise supporting the delivery of complex commercial and ICT projects for the public sector.
Kym regularly advises clients in relation to commercial and ICT contracting, structuring their procurement process, risks of challenge or judicial review, and machinery of government.
Before joining Chapman Tripp, Kym worked for the award winning New Zealand Government Procurement branch within MBIE and another top tier law firm.
Recent highlights
- Assisting MBIE with drafting and negotiating a new All-of-Government contract for reticulated gas.
- Assisting Fire and Emergency with various procurement projects, including for fire appliances and PPE.
- Assisting the Civil Aviation Authority with overhauling its contracting arrangements to modernise the Aeronautical Information Service, providing pilots and crews access to essential data needed for the safety, regularity and efficiency of air navigation in New Zealand.
- Assisting Parliamentary Service with its contracting arrangements for the payroll service that pays Ministers, MPs and staff working in the Parliamentary precinct.
- Assisting public entities with complex ICT procurements.
- Providing specialist procurement and probity advice for complex public procurements.
- Assisting clients with a range of data protection issues, including in relation to consumer-facing privacy notices, data commercialisation and analytics, cloud storage, and personal information requests.
